At a client’s first consultation they will be asked a series of questions relating to their health, lifestyle and general wellbeing, and the practitioner will also take their pulse and look at their tongue. A short treatment where possible will be given at the end of this consultation. This first consultation typically lasts up to one hour. Very fine, sterile, single use, disposable needles are used. The needling experience is totally different from having an injection and much milder, although some sensations are usually felt, such as a dull ache or tingling. The acupuncturist will recommend a course of treatments where necessary and provide lifestyle advice.
Other techniques will be used, if appropriate, including: massage, electro-acupuncture, cupping and moxibustion (a warming herb is applied to the needles or skin).
Acupuncture is best known for its pain relieving properties and is now used in 86% of Pain Clinics in the NHS. When people are suffering from tension
headaches, migraines, back, neck and shoulder pain, the symptoms of
Repetitive Strain Injury, fatigue, and eye strain, then acupuncture can help. It can also be helpful for those quitting smoking, or other drug addictions. A longer list of treatable conditions is listed in the Acupuncture section.
Providing acupuncture at your community centre can often encourage people to make more use of your facilities. It becomes an attractive service that makes you stand out. It also demonstrates a positive commitment and contribution to your local community.
For the employer it can mean reduced absenteeism and improved productivity. When people are working long hours or under pressure, then having the
convenience of a workplace treatment facility to get help and support can be
an important outlet or safety net and help create a healthier working
environment.
You offer us one or more rooms depending on your requirements, and we bring everything else (treatment couches, towels, and all supplies). Although if you already have equipment we are happy to use what is available. We generally advise a weekly slot, as clients following a treatment plan are often best seen every week initially. However, we are happy to offer other packages (e.g. monthly Health Detox sessions). What we charge your staff or visitors for treatments depends on your contribution. A minimum requirement is provision of room space at no charge.
Fees
The fees we charge your staff or visitors depends on your contribution. We are happy to work out a solution to fit your needs. For example, at Age Concern’s North Southwark Healthy Living Centre, they provide us with free room space, some equipment and publicity, which enables us to offer follow-up treatments for £15. This means that acupuncture is affordable to people who probably could not afford to pay the usual prices, but would benefit from treatment.
